Product Database Design and Site Setup with Complex Product Logic
A client with a database of 40 bed models, each with various options in size, fabric, and storage configurations, approached us with a request to display all these options on their website. The goal was to provide a seamless way for users to select colors and fabrics for each bed model.

Alternatives, why was this solution chosen?
Alternatives, why was this solution chosen?
- We evaluated both Shopify’s native variant management options and third-party apps
- Shopify’s native solution has a limit of 100 variants per product, which was insufficient for our needs, as we required 400 variants per product
- While third-party applications are viable, they introduce subscription costs, reliance on external services, potential site speed reduction, and the risk of conflicts with themes and other plugins

What Was Done?
What Was Done?
- Using the client’s reference materials and data, we created a catalog of 1,000 products: 40 bed models, each available in 25 color and fabric combinations. We then incorporated size and storage options for each model
- We implemented metafields for each product and variation to ensure the necessary information displayed correctly on the site
- Developed a pop-up swatch selector, coded pseudo-variants, and configured seamless image switching when a swatch was selected. Users could then smoothly transition to a page with the selected color option
- Configured metafields within the admin panel to streamline swatch management, allowing for easy adjustments directly by the admin.

The site now features a well-organized product structure, enabling users to select color, fabric, and storage options within a single product page. Each product variant was created as a unique item in the admin panel, so the selected variant’s unique SKU is added directly to the cart.
