Automating Image Compression From Shopify Files
In today's digital age, online businesses face the constant challenge of optimizing their websites for improved performance. This case study explores a unique solution we implemented for a client who grappled with sluggish website loading times due to the overwhelming volume of image files in their online store. What we did: To tackle this issue, we developed an integration with the online image compression service Tinify. Using the GraphQL API, we retrieved all the images from the online store and sent them to Tinify for compression. After compression, the images were uploaded back to Shopify, replacing the originals. Copies of uncompressed files were stored in an Airtable database. Result: As a result, the website now loads faster without compromising image quality, and all image files on the site, not just product photos, are compressed.
