Exclusion Of Google Fonts From European Websites

In the landscape of website development and design, compliance with regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) stands as a cornerstone for protecting user privacy and data integrity. Among the myriad considerations under GDPR, the integration of third-party resources like Google Fonts poses a unique challenge. According to GDPR regulations, Google Fonts should be loaded onto a website only after the user has given consent. If this is not feasible, then Google Fonts should be hosted on the website's server to prevent the transmission of personal data to third-party servers. We opted for the latter option, which involved localizing all Google Fonts on the website's server, as the former required significant time investment and a rework of site loading logic. What we did: Identified which Google Fonts were being used on our clients' websites. Compiled a list and downloaded these fonts from the Google Fonts website. Uploaded them to Shopify and Thinkific servers. Utilized Google Fonts at no cost to our clients. Result: Our clients' websites now utilize Google Fonts hosted on Shopify and Thinkific servers, ensuring that users' personal information (such as IP addresses and site behavior) is not transmitted to Google's third-party servers.
